Car Rentals:
There are numerous car rentals throughout Georgetown. Prices vary depending on the type of vehicle, most range from US$30 - $50 with a security deposit of about US$200 - $250. Before driving in Guyana, you must present your Driver’s License to the IRD (Inland Revenue Department), License Revenue Division to obtain a Drivers Permit for 30 days


Taxi (Cabs):
Taxis have an unconventional movement through out the city and into rural areas. Georgetown is well served with taxis and one is easy to find outside most hotels or by using our search at the top right hand corner of this page. Fares vary with services and destinations. Short distances within Georgetown fares are usually around $300 - $400 Guyana dollars (US$1.50 - $2.00).

Mini Buses:
Mini Buses operate in allocated zones for which there is an organized fare structure. Each route has specific starting points that are concentrated in the Stabroek area and along the Avenue of the Republic between Croal and Robb streets. If you’re thinking about taking the mini bus, then be prepared to be jostled.

Ferries:
Ferry rides are more scenic, make quite a few stops and travel time varies depending on the ride and other factors. If you plan on taking a ferry, be prepared to travel with farm animals and vehicles on some ferries. Fares are mostly fixed for specific destinations.

River Taxi (Speed Boat) :
A speed boat or river taxi is a 12+ passenger open boat where passengers dress in life jackets during a sometimes bumpy ride to their destination. They can be chartered to take passengers to Hinterland Resorts and return in a single day. Travel time to your destination can be cut by as much as 75%. Speed boat rides are not recommended for people who avoid Roller Coaster rides or are affected by sea sick or motion sickness.

Planes:
Private charter companies make air transportation to the hinterland easy, weather it be business or pleasure. They operate from the Ogle Airport. Please refer to our search for local travel agencies and local charter companies.
